Introduction

Are you an experienced Sliding Head CNC Programmer / Setter / Operator who takes pride in delivering precision and enjoys working with complex materials and cutting-edge machines?

We’re looking for a skilled engineer to join a supportive team in Rugby. You’ll play a key role in programming, setting, and operating Sliding Head CNC turning centres, contributing to a workplace committed to excellence and continuous improvement.

If you enjoy the challenge of producing high-quality components, working with Citizen and Star machines, and being part of a proactive team — this could be the perfect role for you.

Key Responsibilities

  • Program and edit NC programs for Fanuc and Mitsubishi controlled Sliding Head machines.

  • Set up CNC machine tools efficiently, following process and tooling layouts.

  • Produce ‘first-off’ components to drawing specifications and ensure production readiness.

  • Manage pre- and post-production kitting, preparing tooling and ancillaries and identifying wear or damage.

  • Operate and monitor machines during production runs, maintaining quality and managing tool wear.

  • Carry out in-process inspections using first principles methods, shadow graphs, Vici Vision, and OGP systems.

  • Record and communicate production data, escalating any issues to team leaders or management.

  • Support NPI and continuous improvement activities to enhance processes and production strategies.

  • Complete TPM maintenance tasks and maintain a clean, organised workspace in line with 5S standards.

Candidate Requirements

  • Strong experience in CNC machining and Sliding Head turning, ideally on Citizen M Series and Star SR/SB/SL machines.

  • Ability to develop machining strategies, select tooling, and create robust NC programs.

  • Confident in setting up complete processes, including bar feeders, bushes, and collets.

  • Excellent knowledge of materials, tooling geometries, cutting data, and measurement techniques.

  • High attention to detail, proactive mindset, and ability to stay organised under pressure.

  • A collaborative, professional approach with good communication and problem-solving skills.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary up to £39,000 depending on experience.

  • Permanent position with a respected precision engineering business.

  • Opportunities to work with advanced machines and develop your expertise further.

  • Supportive team environment and a strong culture of continuous improvement.

  • Clean, organised, and safety-focused working conditions.
